Giving Back to the Legal Community: Active Participation

The Law Offices of Andrea D. McMillan, PA actively supports the state and local legal communities. Andrea McMillan has a decades-long track record of meaningfully contributing to, and being involved in, legal organizations and activities, including the Palm Beach County Bar Association (PBCBA), the Florida Justice Association (FJA), and the Florida Association for Women Lawyers (FAWL). She has served on—or chaired, or co-chaired—numerous PBCBA bar committees and subcommittees, and has presented on legal topics at several PBCBA seminars. She has also presided over mock trials put on by law students, frequently taught adults and children about the law at various presentations and seminars, and has expanded her legal knowledge by attending many workshops, seminars, and luncheons, put on by the PBCBA and The Florida Bar. These and other legal activities have allowed Andrea to expand and share her legal knowledge, and to meet, know, and work, collectively, with communities of lawyers and judges. 2021 PBCBA Holiday Party

The Palm Beach County Bar Association recently held its annual holiday party at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts. After the separations necessitated by the pandemic, the party was a welcome and joyous coming together of lawyers and judges.

2021 PBCBA Holiday Toy Drive

The Law Offices of Andrea McMillan recently donated to the Palm Beach County Bar Association Holiday Toy Drive, benefiting Palm Beach County charities, such as Friends of Foster children and Place of Hope.

Andrea McMillan recently joined fellow Palm Beach County Bar Association members, judges, and special guests, at the National Croquet Center for a “Pass the Gavel” Cocktail reception, honoring the outgoing 15th Judicial Circuit and Fourth District Court of Appeal chief judges, as they pass the gavel to their successors.

2020 Florida Justice Association Virtual 5k

Andrea McMillan is a proud member of the Florida Justice Association (“FJA”), a statewide organization of trial lawyers who strengthen and uphold Florida civil justice system, and protecting the rights of Florida citizens and consumers. On June 25, 2020, she earned the First Place Overall Female Award in the FJA Virtual 5k, held during the FJA Virtual Convention.

2019 PBCHBA -Café Con Leche Luncheon

On November 19, 2019 Andrea McMillan joined the Palm Beach County Hispanic Bar Association (PBCHBA) for its Café Con Leche luncheon in the Judicial Dining Room at the Palm Beach County Courthouse. The PBCHBA assists and supports the South Florida Hispanic community through various programs, including legal education programs.

2019 Lawyers for Literacy Talk- Adult Education Center

In honor of Lawyers for Literacy Day on November 13, 2019, Andrea McMillan gave an informative, motivational talk to a class of adult learners at the Adult Education Center of Palm Beach County. The students, all learning English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), heard about Andrea’s personal story of migrating to the United States, her love of words, books, and the law, and the value of hard work. The event was sponsored by the Lawyers for Literacy Committee of the Palm Beach County Bar Association.

On October 22, 2019 Andrea McMillan participated in the Florida Justice Association Women’s Caucus WPB Table for 8, where women trial lawyers met at a West Palm Beach restaurant for dining, conversation, and camaraderie.

2019 CREC Meeting- Fla. Bar Convention

Andrea McMillan participated in the June 28, 2019 Code and Rules of Evidence (CREC) Committee Meeting at the 2019 Florida Bar Annual Convention, at the Boca Raton Resort and Club. She formerly served as CREC Committee Vice-Chair, and currently serves as Chair of the CREC Legislative Relations Subcommittee.

2019 Law Week- Justice Teaching – PBC Courthouse

In honor of “Law Week,” on May 2, 2019, Andrea McMillan presented on the First Amendment freedoms of “Free Press, Free Speech, Free Society” to local high-schoolers at the Palm Beach County Courthouse.

2019 4th Annual PBC YLS 5k Run for Justice

For the second year in a row, Andrea McMillan earned the Fastest Female Attorney and Second Place Overall Awards at the Annual Palm Beach County Bar Association, Young Lawyer Section 5k Run for Justice, on March 30, 2019.  All proceeds benefited the Legal Aid Society of PBC, which provides civil legal advice and representation to the disadvantaged.

On March 2, 2019, Andrea McMillan served as a presiding judge in a mock trial competition at the Palm Beach County Courthouse. The competitors were Florida law students competing in the American Association for Justice (AAJ) Student Trial Advocacy Competition (STAC).

On February 6, 2019, Andrea McMillan joined hundreds of Palm Beach County lawyers and judges at the annual judicial reception hosted by the Palm Beach County Chapter of the Florida Association of Women Lawyers (FAWL). She has been an active FAWL member for almost 30 years.

On February 1, 2019, Andrea McMillan taught civics to students at the Palm Beach County Courthouse for “Take Your Child to Work Day.” The event was jointly hosted by the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit, the Palm Beach County Bar Association, and The Palm Beach County Chapter of the Florida Association of Women Lawyers.

2019 State of the Bar Luncheon

Andrea McMillan and Fourth District Court of Appeal Judges, Alan Forst and Spencer Levine, attended the annual “State of The Bar” luncheon at the Kravis Center on January 15, 2019. The event, hosted by the PBC Chapter of the Florida Association of Women Lawyers, provided an update on the ongoing work of the Florida Bar.

2018 Forum Club – Justice Barkett Luncheon

On November 26, 2018, Andrea McMillan and other Palm Beach County lawyers and judges enjoyed an informative guest speaker, the Honorable Rosemary Barkett, at the monthly Forum Club of the Palm Beaches luncheon. Justice Barkett is a former Chief Justice of the Florida Supreme Court, and former judge of the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Andrea McMillan is a former member of the Forum Club Board of Directors.

2018 FAWL “Take Your Child to OA” Day

On November 6, 2018 Andrea McMillan participated in “Take Your Child to Oral Argument” Day at the Fourth District Court of Appeal, in West Palm Beach, where she served as a judicial law clerk, from 1990-1992. .Attendees watched lawyers present oral arguments to the 3-judge panel of appellate judges, then participated in a question and answer session with the judges. The event was sponsored by the PBC Chapter of the Florida Association of Women Lawyers (FAWL).

3rd Annual PBC Bar YLS 5k

For three years—from 2016-2018—Andrea McMillan was the Organizer/Presenter/ Moderator of the Palm Beach County Bar Association’s Annual Evidence Law Seminar: “Getting It In, Keeping It Out, and Being Upheld On Appeal.” During those years, she prepared detailed outlines on recent Florida Evidence law for Palm Beach County civil, criminal, and appellate attorneys and judges, and distributed those outlines at the Evidence seminars that she presented. The seminars also involved a discussion of Evidence law with a panel of judges.

PBCBA Coffee & Bagels With The Judges

The Palm Beach County Bar Association hosts events providing its lawyer members to meet and interact with Palm Beach County judges outside of the courtroom. Andrea McMillan is pictured here with fellow lawyers at one such event: a Coffee & Bagels breakfast with local judges at the Palm Beach County Courthouse. The breakfasts are organized by the Palm Beach County Bar Association Judicial Relations Committee, on which Andrea has served for many years. Her committee service allows her to interact with many local judges also serving on the committee.

4th DCA Clerkship

After graduating from law school in 1990, Andrea McMillan was selected for a prestigious legal clerkship at the Fourth District Court of Appeal (4 th DCA) in West Palm Beach with the Honorable Harry Lee Anstead, a distinguished jurist who later served as a Florida Supreme Court Justice. In that 2-year clerkship, Andrea was exposed to many areas of the law, and did extensive legal research and writing that enabled the 12 appellate court judges to decide cases from a six-county region. She is pictured here with the portrait of the late Honorable Gavin Letts, another 4 th DCA judge who mentored her.
